WABAG wins EIB & KFW funded DBO order in Zambia for Waste Water Treatment Plants
VA TECH WABAG a leading pure-play water technology Indian Multinational Group, continues to expand its presence and strengthen its leadership position in the African Continent with Design, Build & Operate (DBO) order worth ~ Euro 78 Million (~ Rs.700 Crore) from Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LWSC), multi-laterally funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) of Germany. This strategic win marks WABAG’s entry into Zambia, further strengthening its presence in Africa and reinforcing its role as a comprehensive water solutions provider in the continent.
Under this DBO contract, WABAG will execute the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) of two advanced Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs) a 54 MLD WWTP and a 19 MLD WWTP located in Ngwerere and Chunga, Zambia. The EPC phase will span 36 months, followed by 24 months of Operation & Maintenance (O&M) to ensure sustainable performance and efficiency.
Majority of the energy needs of the WWTPs will be sustainably met through green energy sources, utilizing a combination of biogas and solar power.
WABAG’s successful track record in delivering world-class water and wastewater treatment projects, combined with its technically superior and competitive bid, played a pivotal role in securing this landmark contract in Zambia’s dynamic market.

L&T Heavy Engineering Wins Multiple Orders in Q3 FY25.
Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Heavy Engineering division has announced the acquisition of several high-value orders in both international and domestic markets during the third quarter of FY25.
On the international front, L&T won a significant LNG equipment order for a project in the United States, one of its largest LNG orders to date. Additionally, the company secured a breakthrough contract for a loop reactor in a Propane Dehydrogenation Polypropylene Plant in Turkey, showcasing its expertise in the petrochemical sector.
L&T also received a repeat order from a Saudi Arabian oil & gas customer for a revamp project for a Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit. In Kuwait, the company was awarded an order to supply critical components for hydrocracker reactors and high-pressure heat exchangers.
In the domestic market, L&T strengthened its position in the fertilizer sector by securing contracts for three urea reactors from Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation, Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd, and Indorama India Private Ltd, marking 17 consecutive wins in the urea reactor segment.
These “significant” orders, typically valued between Rs.1,000 and Rs.2,500 crore, underline L&T’s growing footprint in various sectors, including LNG, petrochemicals, oil and gas, and fertilizers.
L&T Secures Transmission & Distribution Orders Worth Up to Rs.5,000 Crore.
Engineering giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced recently that its Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) vertical has secured new orders in India and the Middle East worth up to Rs.5,000 crore.
L&T categorized these as large orders, falling within the Rs.2,500 crore to Rs.5,000 crore range. Among the key projects, the company has received an order for implementing an Advanced Distribution Management System in West Bengal. This technology will enhance power distribution by integrating Outage Management and Distribution Management System functions, providing real-time monitoring and control of medium and low voltage networks. The system will improve network reliability by enabling quicker fault isolation and faster restoration of power. Internationally, L&T has won significant orders in the Middle East. In Saudi Arabia, the company secured a contract to build a 380 kV substation to facilitate the evacuation of solar power generation. In Kuwait, L&T has been awarded a 400 kV substation project for a major city. Additionally, in Dubai, L&T PT&D will establish several Extra High Voltage (EHV) substations, including a 400/132 kV substation, as part of the emirate’s efforts to upgrade its power transmission infrastructure. These developments are aimed at ensuring Dubai remains a top global destination for residents, workers, and visitors. Last October, L&T’s PT&D vertical secured new orders in the Middle East and Africa worth up to Rs.10,000 crore for expanding and strengthening high-voltage electricity grids in the region.
