Sustainability has always been a key focus area for us, and it will continue to drive Volvo CE’s growth in the future.

Volvo CE has incorporated a plethora of cutting-edge technologies into its machines for better performance and efficiency. Volvo CE machines feature cutting-edge technologies such as ActiveCare telematics, Co-Pilot operator assist systems, and autonomous solutions. These technologies provide real-time data on machine performance, fuel consumption, and maintenance needs, allowing users to optimize productivity and reduce operational costs. In an exclusive interview to CONSTRUCTION OPPORTUNITIES, DIMITROV KRISHNAN, MANAGING DIRECTOR, VOLVO CE INDIA PVT LTD, details on the products and solutions being showcased at BAUMA CONEXPO INDIA, embedding sustainability, cleaner technologies and a lot more.
What key products, technologies, or launches will you be showcasing at BAUMA CONEXPO INDIA 2026, and how do these offerings address the evolving needs of construction, mining, and infrastructure segments such as bridges, flyovers, rural projects and smart cities?
At BAUMA CONEXPO INDIA 2026, we will showcase advanced construction, and mining solutions designed around three key customer needs — productivity, efficiency and sustainability.
Our portfolio spans solutions for roads, bridges, flyovers, rural connectivity, urban infrastructure and mining, and more, supported by connected technologies that enable smarter fleet management, better uptime and data-driven decision-making.
Beyond machines, our focus is on demonstrating how Volvo CE is continuously evolving as a holistic solutions partner, bringing together equipment, digitalisation, services and application expertise to help customers build India’s infrastructure faster, smarter and more sustainably. The focus is on matching equipment to the application.
What is your assessment of the market potential for your key product categories in India, and how do you foresee demand trends evolving in 2027 and beyond?
India’s construction equipment market has strong fundamentals on a long-term basis, with consolidated industry volumes at 1.35-1.4 lakh units per annum. The demand drivers for the industry would continue to be faster project completion, enhanced mechanisation and productivity. Over the next five years and thereafter, it is expected that demand will remain strong across excavators in the mid-size segment, road construction equipment, mining, and other heavy equipment, with the change not being even across segments or regions.
Road widening and upgrades, state infrastructure, mining, and urbanisation are likely to keep fuelling equipment demand. For Volvo CE, the opportunity is particularly strong in segments where customers are increasingly evaluating equipment on productivity, fuel efficiency, uptime and lifecycle economics, rather than only the initial purchase price.
How is your organisation embedding sustainability, cleaner technologies and environmentally responsible practices into its products, operations and long-term strategy?
Sustainability has always been a key focus area for us, and it will continue to drive Volvo CE’s growth in the future. There has been a constant improvement process within the company related to products’ fuel consumption and emissions, electrification, and developing more sustainable ways of working in general. Sustainability is considered throughout the value chain, from production to operations.
Technological shifts take place according to market demands. In India, practical application of cleaner technologies will be implemented while focusing on energy efficiency of the current equipment portfolio.
Rentals are growing. What is your strategy to tap opportunities and what is your outlook for the rentals market?
The growth of rentals reflects a broader shift from owning equipment to accessing outcomes.
At Volvo CE, we see strong potential in Equipment-as-a-Service (EaaS) models, which can give customers greater flexibility while reducing the upfront investment and complexity of equipment ownership.
Our focus is on developing solutions that go beyond the machine bringing together equipment, uptime, maintenance, digital connectivity and lifecycle support into a more predictable, outcome-based offering.
As India’s infrastructure ecosystem evolves, we see EaaS and other flexible equipment models becoming increasingly relevant, particularly for customers looking for productivity, cost efficiency and operational flexibility.
What is your outlook for the construction equipment industry and your company going forward?
The construction industry is becoming more technology-oriented.
India’s construction infrastructure is remaining a primary growth driver while shortening of project time frames is driving a need for higher mechanisation and productivity.
India has become the third-largest market for construction equipment and we believe it has the potential to become the biggest market globally in the nearest time.
Volvo CE will focus on expanding in its main sectors, increasing localisation, developing products specific to the Indian market, and providing connectivity and eco-friendliness.
The global engineering can be leveraged to improve comprehending the future needs of Indian customers and projects.
