A Hawk’s EYE on INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

India’s economic progress is on an accelerator pedal, all thanks to burgeoning consumption pattern and the government’s concerted policies to facilitate growth. This development spree is ably backed by a resounding speed of infrastructure advancement at all fronts – Road, Rail, Ports and Airports. While all the authorities are making impressive progress in completing projects at fast pace, there has been a sea change the way progress of these projects is being tracked.

As per the recent news update, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) has engaged the services of Mobile Inspection Vans (MIVs) for Quality Inspection of National Highways through Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) in 4 States – Gujarat, Rajasthan, Odisha and Karnataka – on Pilot basis. This is part of Ministry’s commitment towards constructing National Highways with global quality standards. Use of these MIVs will augment the existing quality control & quality acceptance systems of NH works by introducing a more proactive approach for identifying issues related to quality. Quarterly 2000 km of NH Projects will be inspected in each state using these Mobile Inspection Vans. Inspections would be conducted in various projects being implemented by NHAI/ NHIDCL/State PWDs and other executing agencies of MoRTH.

In another news, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is planning to take over the State Highways with high traffic density from the state governments for a period of 25 years. Thereafter, those state highways will be converted into 4 or 6 lane highways and then the Centre will collect toll from those highways. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari mentioned this during an event. He also highlighted that the government is planning a green express highway between Mumbai and Bangalore. Likewise, 27 green express highways are coming up in the country. The minister listed a slew of projects being undertaken, including 75 access-controlled expressways across the country, which will ensure faster movement of goods and people across the country.

These are remarkable developments shaping up with a view to empower an all-inclusive infrastructure development. Buoyed by the momentous announcements and developments, construction fraternity is supercharged to make the most of these unfolding opportunities and are ably playing an enabling role in this exciting journey. This is truly the DAWN of an ERA, which is poised for an ULTIMATE INFRASTRUCTURE EVOLUTION.
