Advantage Zycosoil 

A 2 km stretch of an industrial road project connected to the highway in Gujarat has used technology from Zydex to address surface corrosion and damage.


Maintenance is a crucial phase involved in the construction process and is a deciding factor in the sustainability of a structure. Damages in the surface area and stripping are common concerns associated with the road projects. A 2 km road stretch near GIDC Industrial Road (Char Rasta) near Janta Chokdi at Vitthal Udyonagar in Anand, Gujarat witnessed similar concerns of surface damage due to heavy traffic and stripping. The road stretch played a vital role in the commuting network as it linked GIDC to the main highway. The project demanded a solution capable of transforming the road into a sustainable road network stretch.


Zycosoil: Prime Choice

Zydex Industries, due to its unique, nanotechnology based unique solutions, was opted as the prime choice for addressing the hiccups in the GIDC industrial road project. Zycosoil, a breakthrough technology from the Zydex clan, was adopted to address the stripping and surface damaging problem. Zycosoil’s ability to chemically bond with the surface of the aggregates eliminates de-bonding of the asphalt binder. Zycosoil also has the potential to increase the tensile strength of an asphalt mix by about 15-20 per cent as against the amines or hydrated lime compounds.  After understanding the benefits of Zycosoil, the pavement design was undertaken to lay a 40 mm BC composition on DBM.


Key Observations

Zycosoil organosilane compound was mixed in 60/70 grade (VG 30) at the dosage of 0.1 per cent weight in hot melt asphalt, wherein the asphalt concrete was made after mixing Zycosoil. A Zycosoil modified asphalt mix is easier to compact both in the laboratory and in the field. The product has the ability to improve compact effort by 1-1.5 per cent, ultimately saving the cost of construction and increased durability of asphalt pavement with reduced air voids.


The vital observations attained during the utilisation of Zycosoil involved:

  • Zycosoil mixed easily in hot melted asphalt tank
  • Uniform coating and a shiny mixture was found upon the asphalt coating on the aggregates
  • Laying and compaction of asphalt concrete was found better and non-sticky on the compactor’s roller
  • Better bonding and improved stability


Similar reformative observations were gained during the laboratory testing of Zycosoil compounds with the asphalt concrete. The representative samples of Zycosoil compounds mixed with asphalt concrete were collected for boiling test. The test samples were subjected to immersing in de-ionised water at 100° C. The key findings after the laboratory test involved – clear water was found in the glass water, revealing that Zycosoil mixed asphalt has not worn out. In addition, 98 per cent of retentivity was also found in the asphalt coating on aggregates.


Post Monsoon Analysis

Aiming to examine the product efficiency and sustainability of the road stretch, Vishvakarma Consultants performed on-site observations after the monsoon. The analysis was conducted between the road stretch with Zycosoil additive and its counterpart without additive.  The key findings were – asphalt concrete layer on the road surface was found intact and no damages like loose aggregates, pot holes, broken edge etc were observed as against regular asphalt concrete layer which is normally damaged due to the stripping problem.

Zycosoil, emerged as an effective additive for improving the service life of the pavements and also in eliminating the repair work on pavements. Furthermore, Zycosoil additive is less than 1.5 per cent for re-carpeting work, wherein the project has achieved an assured lifecycle of more than four years and is more economical in nature.
