This way, the world is expected to face a reduction in the carbon footprint by over 30% than the ordinary cement, which in turn, is likely to enable cleaner, greener and smarter cities.


Apart from this, few startup companies are constantly trying to produce varieties of green cement. In order to meet their target, these companies are attracting major tech investors and venture capitalists such as Bill Gates’ Breakthrough Energy and John Doerr of Kleiner Perkins etc. In the past one year, a funding of nearly $110 million has been invested to green cement startups.



Few major types of green cement used for commercial purposes are as follows:-

  • Geopolymer Cement: It is created from alum inosilicates that are usually found in fly ash.
  • Calcium Sulfoaluminate Cement: It requires low temperature and energy utilization, which sequentially, results to decrease carbon footprints.
  • Sequestrated Carbon Cement: It involves an unusual manufacturing process which requires seawater or brine element with carbon dioxide.
  • Ekkomaxx Cement: It is heavily manufactured by Ceratech Company in U.S. Its basic composition involves fly ash and few other liquid supplements. It possesses certain properties such as longevity, high strength, and high breach resistance etc.
  • Ferrocrete: The raw materials of ferrocrete are iron and silica, which are derived from Glass and Steel Corporations.
  • Magnesium Oxychloride Cement: It is also known as Sorel cement. Its manufacturing process includes magnesium oxide powder and condensed magnesium chloride.



Undeniably, the global demand of green cement is gradually increasing because people now-a-days are becoming overtly concerned toward saving the planet. According to a report published by Allied Market Research, the global green cement market is anticipated to reach $36 million with a significant CAGR from 2017-2023. Several companies are planning to improve their manufacturing technology in order to acquire cost-effective green cement mixture.



Furthermore, Fortescue, an Australian iron ore company has combined the waste of green iron process with other materials to manufacture green cement. Several other companies like WCA, Cemex, Dalmia Cement, BuzziUnicemand GCCA etc. have also been supporting a sustainable cement industry by committing to low carbon transition. They have totally satisfied the world’s need by producing green iron, green cement, green fertilizers etc. With this drift on board, the global market of green cement is anticipated to have an exponential growth in the near future.
